10th March 2008 - Aberdeen composter orders additional process capacity

Gray Composting Services have placed an order with VCU Europa to expand their in-vessel composting system at its site at Portsoy, Aberdeenshire. The expansion will double the site processing capacity. The company has previously been provided with two Vertical Composting Units by Berkshire based VCU Europa. This will now be doubled to four.

Apart from the shell fish waste which the site was originally developed to process, Gray Composting is currently taking material collected as part of a local trial to divert kitchen organics from landfill.

The expansion coincides with Gray Composting receiving its full SVS Accreditation and the site is now approved to process Category 3 Animal By Products. Managing Director Charlie Gray said ‘With the approval of the site, the interest shown by local waste producers and local authorities, my decision to diversify into composting had been vindicated’. Charlie added ‘I had no hesitation in placing a further order with VCU. The technology is proven and the company has been fully supportive’

Peter Hallam VCU Europa’s Project Development Manager said ‘Charlie has been exemplary in the way he has brought the project through the planning stages all the way to full approval and is a pleasure to work with. We take the fact that another customer has placed an expansion order with us as very complimentary and look forward to further developments’
